French circa 1830s

As with the Hermitage Leaf Border, President Andrew Jackson imported this French Empire style frieze for use in his Nashville mansion, the Hermitage.  The frieze is matched with an ashlar block pattern and is used in both the upstairs and downstairs side halls. An original fragment at the Hermitage bears the maker's mark of the French firm Cartulet et Simone.

This pattern is licensed to Adelphi Paper Hangings by the Ladies Hermitage Association.
